06.07.03 - 4:20 p.m.
I ask my manager if I can clock out for break and he says yes. I run to the computer, slide my card, then run out the door. The sky is dark and bright at the same time and looks like it could errupt any time. I climb in his car. He looks adorable, just sitting there by himself. He smiles at me and everything's okay. I snuggle up next to him, leaning my whole body into his, and we eat frenchfries while we talk about nothing at all.
One of the busiest intersections in town is behind us. I hear cars rushing by. I hear horns honking and motorcycles. It's all there, but not in here-- not in his car. I finish my food and grab his arms, wrap them tight around me, and just sigh. All I ever wanted is to just be able to lie with him, listen to good music, and not have to worry about anything.
I realize there is no music on, so I pick a mix cd up off the floor of the car. It's one I made him a couple months ago. I put it on song number two. I would wait for you if you would wait for me... I sing under my breath as he holds me. Neither of us talk. Just lie there together. It feels like time has stopped. And we're not really standing on the edge of summer. When we'll have to go so long without seeing each other. Waiting doesn't matter anymore. Because we're so in love, we don't have a choice. Neither of us could give up even if we tried.
When the song's over, I skip to song ten. And sing some more, Hands down this is the best day I can ever remember. I'll always remember, the sound of the stereo, the dim of the soft lights, the scent of your hair that you twirled in your fingers and the time on the clock when we realized it's so late, and this walk that we shared together.
He goes to kiss me and I keep singing. I close my eyes and let him kiss me. I let myself fall back into him. I let every inch of my body feel every inch of his. I open my eyes. It feels like my world's been turned upsidedown. He laughs a little and says, "You're loving this aren't you?"
He took my breath away. All I can do is smile, and nod.
